Trick or… Wait, You’re Serious?!

As Halloween draws near, the signs are abundant.  From businesses displaying gigantic bags of “Fun Size” Halloween candy to Facebook users asking friends via status updates, “What should I be for Halloween?”  Another undeniable sign of the holiday is the décor.  Families all over are carving pumpkins for the front porch and hanging fake bats from the ceiling.  Apartment buildings are joining in on the fun too, to create a sense of community for current residents and to show prospects that the doors are wide open…

Err… That is, once they make it past the cobwebs maintenance missed.  And if they don’t run screaming from the spiders the size of those found in the Forbidden Forest in Harry Potter.

Now, we’re not suggesting that going this overboard with decorations is necessary to show residents you care.  Other apartment managers have been just as successful in acknowledging Halloween through efforts as simple as a themed flyer.  For example:

Warning Sign

(As seen in Seattle.  Gotta love that big city livin’.)

If this doesn’t scream “Welcome new residents” and “Happy Halloween!” all at once, then I don’t know what does.  Way to bring the spirit of the holiday into your marketing efforts!  Now, before I sign the lease, the “Recent Events” – that’s just part of your Halloween “trick”, right?

Seen any frightening marketing in your apartment (Halloween-related, awful graphics, or simply scary content)?  Take a picture and send it to blog@beyondwineandcheese.com.  Don’t forget to tell us what city you found it in!

When I was a kid I got in big trouble with the parents for throwing a pissy fit over “fun size” candy. I was like, “What is supposed to be so fun about them? They are *smaller* that the regular size!”

I still remember that spanking. :p

I thought highlighting the “fun size” candy might catch someones attention. If only everyone was like my old boss, who buys the movie theater size candy from a special website to give out on Halloween!
